The Wagner Review is pleased to present an event with Ahmed Rashid, esteemed Pakistani guerrilla-turned-journalist, this Thursday in the Rice Conference Room at Puck. Mr. Rashid has produced some of the boldest and most insightful looks into conflict and insecurity in Central Asia over the last decade.
What: Ahmed Rashid, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the US: Looking Beyond the US ElectionWhen: 9/13/2012 3:00pm-4:00pmLocation: The Puck Building, Rice Conference Room/Newman Reception Area295 Lafayette Street, New York, NY 10012-9604Register Here: http://wagner.nyu.edu/events/
Rashid will examine the corridors of power in Washington and Europe to see how the promised nation building across the Middle East and Central Asia has progressed. His conclusions are devastating: An unstable and nuclear armed Pakistan, a renewed al’ Qaeda profiting from a booming opium trade, and a Taliban resurgence and reconquest. While Iraq continues to attract most of American media and military might, Rashid argues that Pakistan and Afghanistan are where the conflict will finally be played out and that these failing states pose a graver threat to global security than the Middle East.
